Introduction to Data Analysis
The world is driven by data, which is used to make important decisions across all sectors. Yet most of us were never taught how to understand and use it.
This course walks you through the basics of data analysis using Python. While the focus is on programming and data, you’ll learn by doing, through hands-on activities and a final project built around real-world environmental challenges at the local, national and global level.
No previous experience with coding, data analysis or environmental science required.

What you’ll learn:
- How to write and run your first Python scripts.
- How to identify patterns and draw insights from data.
- How to create simple charts and visualisations.
- Key environmental concepts such as climate change, air, water and soil pollution, and sustainability.
Next cohort:
The next cohort begins on 15 September 2026 and finishes on 10 November 2026.
The course runs over eight weekly sessions on Tuesday evenings, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm (UK time). Note there is no session on Tuesday 3 November.

Introduction to Coding in Python
Python is one of the most popular programming languages in the world, known for being versatile and easy to learn.
In this course, you’ll take your first steps in coding, working through hands-on exercises that use real environmental data. By the end, you’ll have a have a solid coding foundation to keep building on and a better understanding of the environment you live in and how to make it better!

Introduction to Prompt Engineering
As AI tools become part of everyday work and life, knowing how to use them effectively is becoming an essential skill. Prompt engineering is the skill of communicating effectively with AI tools to get useful, accurate results, and it is something anyone can learn.
This course will introduce you to the core concepts and techniques behind prompt engineering, with hands-on exercises to help you get the most out of AI tools. No technical background needed.
